With roots in 1853 at the original metalware factory in Geislingen, Baden-Württemberg, WMF has built a reputation as a major innovator and trendsetter in the coffee industry, consistently introducing numerous advanced brewing solutions for more than a century. For example, after decades of manufacturing robust large-scale hotel coffee machines, WMF reached one of its first breakthroughs in 1952 through the WMF model 1000. By 1969, the award-winning WMF ‘Programat ’ was introduced, becoming the first electronically controlled, fully automatic coffee machine in the world. Numerous innovations would follow, such as the automation of complex drinks like latte macchiato, the convenient AutoClean system, and the revolutionary WMF Espresso machine, which automated the semi-automatic portafilter espresso machine. To date, WMF has collected over 800 patents in the coffee industry and continues to innovate into the modern age.
